1st July 1916

Samuel, my Grandmother’s brother, died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.  My Grandfather, Arthur, was shot and bayoneted in the leg and hand. My Great Grandfather, Frank,  was wounded and suffered from mustard gas poisoning.  My Grandmother’s nephew, Eric, died in WWII. My father was stationed in France and later served in the peace keeping forces in the Middle East. Here is a card and a mini love letter he sent to my mother, his Angel. They loved life and people, and taught me that good innocent people, on both sides, die in wars. They are all long dead now but will never be forgotten.
